Weekend.

Another fun filled weekend has come and gone... we did some relaxing, but most of it was go, go, go....

On Friday I had kind of a rough day, so after work, instead of bootcamp, I headed to get a pedicure. It was a really good one, although I felt bad for the nail technician because my feet are not so great after all this running!!

After Rick got home from work, we went out to one of our favorite Vietnamese restaurants, had some beers, and Rick had Pho. He loves Pho, and gets it extra spicy. I had some amazing hot and sour soup and their grilled beef with a salad. Delish! We both finished everything we ordered, and went home watch some of our favorite shows, Modern Family, and The League.... boring, I know, but we were still exhausted from the previous Vegas/Ragnar weekend.

The next morning I got up early to cook, we had invited over our neighbors Katie and Josh for breakfast. I made homemade pumpkin spice pancakes with pecan syrup, scrambled eggs with cheese, and veggie sausages. They turned out really delicious and we had a great time catching up with them!

Later, we went and ran errands, did some shopping, and had lunch at this Greek place that had amazing gyros!!

Don't you just love my new beanie?!?

That evening, we went to dinner with our good friends, Ashley and Ricardo, at Monkey Burger, this wonderful gourmet burger place. They have the best burgers, fries, and dipping sauces!! I had the Madness burger because I was in the mood for spicy! It had Jalapeno slices · Shredded Lettuce · Pepper Jack Cheese · Fajita Peppers · Tabasco Scallion Aioli, with sweet potato fries! YUM!

After dinner we headed to see Paranormal Activity 3. It was not as scary as the first two, but had some unexpected twists and brought new terrifying ways to scare you to light. I was in Ashley's lap almost the entire time, my face buried in her shoulder, our hands holding super tight. She would tell me the parts I missed after I kept my eyes shut for too long and missed something. That is a good friend.

The next morning the strangest thing happened. That day I was planning on doing 8 miles... my schedule had 12, but I had not run that far in a long time, so I thought I would cut it short. I only brought my camelback and one gu, and ran towards the Julian wash by my house.

The Julian wash is part of "The Loop" in Tucson. The Loop is 55 miles of car-free paths being developed around metropolitan Tucson, with links to Marana and Oro Valley, for Pima County residents and visitors on foot, bikes, skates and horses. The Loop connects the Rillito River Park, the Santa Cruz River Park, the Julian Wash Greenway, the Harrison Greenway and the Pantano River Park.  It will connect to parks, trails, bus and bike routes, workplaces, schools, restaurants, hotels and motels, shopping areas, and sports and entertainment venues.

Pretty awesome, huh!? Julian Wash picks up right around 2.3 miles from my house, so I was just gonna take that and go 4 miles, and head back. But- I got to four miles, and thought, I'll go to the end of Julian wash, which would make it about 10 miles round trip. I walked a little when I got a side cramp, wasn't too stressed about time, I had my one gu about 6 miles in, and just enjoyed the scenery and the breeze when it would blow through. It was hot otherwise, probably about 80*.

I hit 10 miles, and then decided I would do the 12 on my plan, what's 2 more miles?? By the time I hit twelve, I checked my watch, and I still had a great pace... I thought hey- let's see how fast I can do 13.1... so, I did. And I got a PR! Seriously, who would ever have thought I would run 13.1 for no reason at all, without stressing, walking a little, not eating anything special the day/night before, not having enough gu, and in 80* heat? Not this gal. Anything over 75* is so uncomfortable for me. Sub 2 hour half marathon, here I come!!

But- this upcoming weekend is an 18 miler.... seems like so much more. Oy. But- I must not have given it all I had, because I came home, cleaned the house, went grocery shopping, and cooked dinner. That has never happened after a half marathon before, either. All those sessions with Ray must be paying off! I love when the runs get up there, because I can eat all I want and not feel bad about it. Halloween candy, here I come!!

Happy Halloween, everyone!! My scary movie loving bestie and I are ballerinas!!

Tonight, Rick and I are hanging at the neighbors', eating, drinking, and handing out candy. Can't wait :)

Tips.

  • Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.
  • Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold. Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.
  • Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat.
  • To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.
  • For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a minty frosting.
  • Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic, and at the end of the recipe if you want a stronger taste of garlic.
  • Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.
  • Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy.
  • Easy Deviled Eggs: Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.
  • Expanding Frosting: When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.
  • Reheating refrigerated bread: To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
  • Newspaper weeds away: Plant your plants in the ground, work the nutrients in your soil. Then wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go, cover with mulch, and forget about weeds.
  • Broken Glass: Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.
  • No More Mosquitoes: Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.
  • To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.
  • Flexible vacuum: To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
  • Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip to eliminate static cling. It works; you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks.
  • Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.
  • De-fog your windshield: Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser.
  • Re-opening envelopes: If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. It unseals easily.
  • Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.
  • Goodbye Fruit Flies: To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. flies are drawn to the cup and gone forever.
  • Wash your dryer filter: dryer sheets cause a film over filter that will burn out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. The best way to keep your dryer working for a long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take the filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush at least every six months.

Ragnar.

This weekend was the Ragnar relay race in Las Vegas, Nevada. We ran from Lake Mead to Las Vegas, approximately 188 miles. Our wonderful team of 12 ran for 28 hours straight. Needless to say, it was exhausting. By the end I was cursing my running shoes, saying I would never ever run again, much less for another Ragnar. I just did not anticipate how tired I would be after running two legs, and having to run my last one at 4 in the morning. I could barely stay awake, much less muster up the strength to run in a good time. But all in all, it was a fun experience, and I do not think I am completely done yet with running, and may even be already committed to another Ragnar in February. Oy.

We arrived in Boulder City around 7:30 am Thursday night, and checked into our houseboat. I loved the boat, and would love to stay there again someday! It was so pretty sleeping with the window open, and waking up and seeing water out on the lake. I really really wanna go off the slide on the top of the boat, too! We had a delicious pasta dinner waiting for us, and we all introduced each other, and filled our bellies. Lindsay made the signs for the race, and we went to bed early. We had to be up at 6 am to get breakfast and head out to the safety meeting pre-race.

We had all you-can-eat pancakes for breakfast and headed out to the start line. Our racers in our van were, in this order: Kara, Rick, Jessica, Wade, myself, and Lindsay. Our first legs were not so bad, Rick had some crazy hills, and I thought my hills were a little crazy for only being a "moderate" leg. The heat was so intense! The guy at the restaurant said it was 90* outside!! It was hotter than I have ever ran outside before, but it was only 4 miles. So I powered through, Lindsay ran, and then we met up without other van for exchange 6. In the other van were Alex, Jesse, Brittaney, Randy, Fern, and Dan. Alex, Jesse, Brittaney, and Randy all run marathons. Dan is the defending two-time Tucson Triathlon winner, and Fern is a soccer player. We had an amazing team of runners!!!

While the other team was running, we had lunch, and went back to the boat to shower and rest. We only got to lay down for a short time, it felt like, and we were off to run our second legs. My second leg was 5 miles, and I did it in my best time yet, just under 8:30 pace. I felt like it should have been faster, but I was tired, and the first part was uphill, so I guess it was OK.

After our second legs were finished, we were all exhausted. We only had time to eat (Cheesecake Factory, YUM), rest for a little bit, and then we were running again. I was SO tired by this point. I was cursing the RAGNAR, the van, and all things running. I did NOT want to run my leg, I just wanted to go to sleep and take a shower. Rick's last run was super hard, and he did about 7 miles straight up a mountain. I am thankful I did not have to run his. My run, however, was slightly uphill in dirt, gravel, with huge rocks everywhere. I just could not get a good pace going because I would tweak my ankle on a rock. I do not love trail runs. Also, the vans had to drive past us on the dirt, so we would get dust and dirt kicked up into our face as we were running. It was awful, and I ended up with just under a 10 minute mile pace, which was what my first one uphill in the heat was, as well. Not great. I was SO happy to be done.

Next, after Lindsay finished her dirt eating run, too, we did our last exchange and went to the hotel on the strip to check in everyone, and have breakfast at the Hash House, one of our favorites on the strip. By the time that was done, we headed to the park where the finish was and waited for our team. Some people had some of the free beer, others laid on the ground and took a quick nap. Finally, Van 2 met up, and we cheered Brittany along, and all ran across the finish together. That was a great feeling to be done, and accomplish something that was really difficult. We were all too tired to put on our Hangover costumes, which were pretty awesome. Oh, well... next time. It didn't dawn on me before, but I realized that our friends that drove and navigated, Ann and Marcel, stayed awake for the entire time! While we were resting in the van after our runs, dozing, napping, they were figuring out where to go next and pulling off on the side and cheering for us. We owe them. BIG. They truly are amazing friends.

After everyone was finished running, we finally got to head back to out hotel, the Paris, and shower and nap. I took a really good 3 hour nap, and then Rick was waking me up to head to the Cosmopolitan to meet up with everyone. We hung out in our friend Kyle's suite, had dinner at this yummy burger bar in the Cosmo, went back to the suite for a short time, and headed to bed. We were all super tired, and ready to sleep for hours and hours.

All in all it was a fun weekend, and we had a great time with our friends, and got to celebrate Rick's 30th birthday with everyone. I don't know if I am ready to run again, but today I am back at it. I guess all my ranting and raving about never running again was just exhaustion and delirium. Let's hope.

30.

My sweet husband turned 30 this weekend, and here are some reasons why I love him, and am lucky to have him in my life. 30 reasons, to be exact.

1. He is a loving, wonderful husband. I am the luckiest.
2. He surprises me with love notes and trinkets often.
3. He lets me watch my silly reality TV shows, even when Monday Night Football is on, and he is grilling dinner.
4. He is a really good kisser.
5. The night we met we went dancing and he is a really good dancer, too. Although, he doesn't dance much anymore.
6. He worries about me when I am running alone, and will drive around just to make sure I am OK.
7. He loves his friends so much, and has been friends with some of them for 15 years.
8. He will be a wonderful Daddy, is awesome with children, and I think he may just be getting excited about it, too.
9. He loves his family so much, and I know he will love our little family with all his heart.
10. He works so hard, long hours, travels, and works weekends, just so that he can give us a life he will be proud of and we will be happy with.
11. I remember the very first moment we met, and I fell in love with him instantly. I didn't realize what kind of love until later.
12. Even when we were not in a romantic relationship, we were the best of friends. So, I always knew what kind of person he was and that I could trust him completely.
13. He always encourages me to try new things, and is my biggest supporter.
14. He likes traveling and exploring new places just as much as I do, and I am excited as to where we will go next!
15.  He loves gangsta rap, and I think it is funny when he raps in the car.
16. He is always willing to help a stranger in need. Whether it be giving them money from his pocket, or buying gifts for needy families during the holidays.
17. He will never deny me something I really, really want, as long as it is within reason.
18. He has a great sense of style, and always looks so cute.
19. He likes to eat out and eat junk food almost as much as I do, so I never feel bad about it.
20. He the smartest person I know, and the only rocket scientist I have ever met in real life.
21. He has the most beautiful blue eyes.
22. He is a much faster runner than I am, and inspires me to work harder and not give up.
23. He always keeps his promises.
24. He has cute dimples. I hope our babies get his eyes and his dimples. Oh, and his skin tone.
25. He doesn't snore too loudly.
26. He is always in a good mood in the morning, which is fortunate, because I am not.
27. He has great ideas for decorating our house and backyard. This is also helpful, because I am terrible at that stuff.
28. He loves anything and everything I cook. Even if I think it is terrible.
29. He gives great massages.
30. He is my best friend.

********* I love you baby!!! Happy Happy Birthday!!!!!

**This quote seemed appropriate after a weekend spent with lovely ladies I get to call my friends.

Celebrate!

This weekend was a whirlwind to say the least! We celebrated my sweet husband's birthday twice, with my family and his family and friends. It is always wonderful to see what an awesome group of friends we have that will always come out to celebrate with us. After weekends like this, we really feel so blessed and lucky to have them in our lives.

On Friday night, we got up to Phoenix around 7 pm and were greeted by my entire family at my parents' house. My Mom had prepared an awesome feast for us (as always) including all homemade ramaki, bruschetta, chicken parmesan, sauce with pasta and meatballs and sausage, and a huge salad. She also made homemade chocolate cake for my Rick for dessert. My brother Mike was there with his girlfriend, Carissa, and her two kids who are 4 and 2 years old. Those kids are so adorable, we have all fallen in love with them completely. The boy, who is 2, ran around the house chasing after our huge German Shepherd, and the little girl was with me the entire time, sitting on my lap and saying the cutest things. Rick and I got a glimpse of what energy these children have, but it was so wonderful to be in a house with little ones running around.

My baby brother Stephen is getting married this April, and he finally got around to asking my brother and husband to be groomsman in the wedding. His fiancee Lauren asked her sister and I awhile ago, so excited! He iced them with Smirnoff ices wrapped in paper (Rick's had Jeff Gordon's on it, his absolute fav) saying "Congratulations on being a groomsman in the Bird/Burdorf wedding!" Cute. This wedding is going to be so fun. I can't wait!!

On Saturday, Rick and I headed over to Rick's parents to get ready for his birthday BBQ that night. His Mom prepared various Italian treats from sausage with peppers and onions, to meatballs, bruschetta, and cookies. We brought some chips and dip and a cheese and meat platter. All day long people came and went, and the boys worked on a homemade double beer pong table with an automatic ball washer that they will bring with them to NASCAR this year. It really turned out perfect, and is almost ready for November 13th.

I had a wonderful time chatting with my girlfriends all night, and Rick's friends got him some lovely gifts.

On Sunday we woke up and headed over to my brother Mike's new house that he just moved into with his girlfriend and her two babies. It is so nice, and perfect for him for a first home. He really did a great job fixing it up, he got it for an amazing price, and I am so proud of him! After we finished visiting, we went over to my dear friend Randi and her husband Kevin's new house. It is so beautiful, gigantic, and perfect for them and their three adorable girls. Their littlest has always been a little shy, but she has come out of her shell and was totally in love with Rick. She kept having him hold her, and she would give him eskimo kisses, and hug him so tight. It was so sweet. I love that family so much. Randi has been one of my closest friends for over 15 years, and a bridesmaid in my wedding.

We also went over to Randi's little sister, Lindsay's new house to visit and see her new baby Aiden. He was born two months ago and is just perfect. We visited, ate cupcakes, and watched football. It was so nice to be around people I have missed lately, and feel at home with.

We drove back to Tucson after our visits, we had to get Rick ready for a business trip he is taking to Florida this upcoming week. I have to get ready for the Ragnar relay race we are running in Vegas this weekend, and I am all alone all week! I am so ready for this race to be over!! I have not gotten back into enjoying running since my trip to Europe. I am excited, however, to stay at the Paris hotel, and party for my husband's 30th birthday!!

Amazing.

In less than two weeks, I am running the Ragnar relay with some of my closest friends, and some new friends. One of those new friends is an amazing runner. Simply put, but very much deserved, an amazing runner, and her name is Alex.

Alex has been running for a long time, run quite a few marathons, and has always done well. The past few races she has run, have been nothing short of amazing. She placed 2nd in the Seattle marathon in 2:52:32, and this past weekend she ran Chicago. Alex ran a full marathon in 2:45:26. That is a time of 6:19 per mile! She was the 19th fastest woman overall, placed 9th in her division, and qualified for the Olympic trials. Insane!

The best thing about Alex is she is humble, sweet, and doesn't talk about running 24/7. She has other interests, and enjoys just hanging out, and chatting about anything and everything. You wouldn't even know she was such a talented runner, unless you looked at her, of course. She just runs because she likes to, I am sure also because she is good at it, but she doesn't flaunt her times, act like she is better than everyone, or brag about her successes. She doesn't like to talk about her running much at all, even. She asks questions about your running because she is genuinely interested, and is always encouraging and a plethora of knowledge and advice. She is so inspiring, and such a wonderful person. I feel so lucky to have her on our Ragnar team! She will likely run all of her (much harder) legs faster put together, than I will run one of mine. I cannot wait to see what her next success will be, and I know I will be amazed by her then, as much as I am now. Go, Alex, Go!

Feast.

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! We sure did... our weekend basically consisted of laying around, eating, an awesome massage, more eating, spending quality time with some loved ones, oh- and more eating. Basically a weekend of feasting!

Friday night Rick and I hit up one of our favorite restaurants, The Melting Pot, to celebrate his 30th birthday, just the two of us. His birthday isn't until the 23rd, but we have a lot of things coming up, and don't have a free weekend night to spend together alone, until then. We had cheddar cheese fondue, followed by a main course of filet, shrimp, pasta, chicken, and teriyaki beef cooked bourgionne style, which is basically a fancy French way of saying "deep fried". It was delicious. We ended with milk chocolate fondue for dessert. I could not eat a single bite more. I was to the point of uncomfortable full, but it was worth it. Every bite was more delicious than the last. I gave Rick one of his birthday presents at dinner, a book of pretty photos I had done for him by an outstanding photographer in Tucson. I had a lot of fun doing them, and boy was he surprised! He looovveeed them! Thanks, Shay!

Saturday we slept in, cleaned the house, and got ready to head to our dear friend Jill's parent's house to celebrate the holiday, Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur, also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest and most solemn day of the year for those of Jewish faith. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Neither Rick or I are Jewish, but they always invite us to spend the holiday with them, and we always have a great time. Jill's parents are hilarious, so warm and welcoming, and awesome hosts. We always fill our bellys with delicious food, and spend the whole night laughing. Can't wait until next year!

On Sunday, we slept in again, had french toast for breakfast, and while Rick was engaged in a high stakes day of Fantasy Football, I made homemade pumpkin spice chocolate chip cookies. I had never made cookies with pumpkin puree before, and they turned out soooo yummy! Rick said they "taste like Fall". Ultimate compliment in my book! It had the delicious taste of pumpkin spice, brown sugar, and chocolate chips. These will definitely be made again! And how dreamy is my Kitchen Aid mixer in its creamy buttercup color??

After a morning of baking, I headed out to Trader Joe's to stock up for the week. I had some leftover pumpkin puree from the cookies and wanted to make pumpkin soup. Trader Joe's had a lovely pumpkin patch set up, and it really put me in the mood to decorate the house more, and give more thought to what we are going to carve our pumpkins into. I love, love this time of year.

After I got home, I had a bowl of cheerios with almond milk (yum!) and set out on a run. I had procrastinated long enough, didn't wanna do it, still would rather do anything than run, but Rick talked me into it. I initially was just going to run to Julian's Wash and back (about 5 miles), but the weather was so lovely, and I had an 8:00 pace up until that point, so I ended up doing 8 miles. Rick was so cute, as I was running back, I saw his truck drive by. He was worried I had been hit by a car, or fell off the side of the freeway, or kidnapped, and was looking for me. He asked if I wanted a ride, I yelled "No thanks!", and off he went. He must really love me.

Once I got home, hot and sweaty, I remembered I was making pumpkin soup for dinner. Feeling about 100* inside my body, it wasn't the most appealing. But- Rick helped me chop and stir, and by the time the soup was ready, I had cooled down and was ready to gobble up some pumpkin soup. It was delicious! Creamy, hot and spicy, and full of flavor! Soooo perfect for a cool Autumn evening.

It was a wonderful weekend, and this week we have Fall Break on Thursday and Friday, so it will be an easy week- I hope to really get out and enjoy the weather! We are heading up to Phoenix this coming weekend to celebrate Rick's birthday with family and friends. Happy Fall!!

Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends.

~William Butler Yeats

Movies.

Many people I know may think that I have a sick sense of humor, and enjoy the oddest things. The enjoyment of such things has been exacerbated by the people that I love, and the people that enjoy such things with me. These things I am talking about are scary movies. I talking, sick, disgusting, movies, and movies so scary you want to cry. I love love love them! But- I will only watch the scary ones around Halloween, so I can get the full effect of terror from viewing such films. The sick movies are good for year-round enjoyment.

The last few years I have been obsessed with the Paranormal Activity films. My dear friend Ashley and I watch the previews at work during the day and are freaked out, and we make a night out of seeing it on a cold October evening.  The last two years we have gone together, with our husbands, to watch these films after a yummy dinner where we allow ourselves to get all worked up with excitement over what this film may bring. The first one was so good- Ashley and I were entangled in one another in the seat, holding hands, and I think at one point I was biting her knee I was so terrified. After the film, my husband and I went out for a drink because we did not want to go home to a dark, quiet house so soon. I do not think I slept a wink that night, and even the heat turning on made me jump.

Last year, we all went together again. I thought the second one was so much scarier than the first. There was a point in the movie that I actually started to cry I was so scared. I shut my eyes and just repeated, "please, please, please!", I wanted the movie to be over. I couldn't take it. That is a good scary movie. I cannot wait for this month's release of 'Paranormal Activity 3'! I know it will not disappoint, I have prepared my friend Ashley to have me in her lap the entire time. I hope they keep releasing these films every year, the anticipation is almost as fun as the movies!

Many people have watched the films at home, saying that it wasn't scary, that I'm such a baby, etc. I understand not everyone thinks the same things are scary, but I explain you have to go into the movie wanting to be scared, expecting to be scared, on the edge of your seat from the very beginning. That is what makes it a great experience, a Halloween-worthy experience.

I love going to haunted houses and corn mazes. I love running from a guy in a mask carrying a chainsaw though a dimly lit hallway with no idea what is on the other side. We once went to a haunted house with our friends Joe and Jill, and the next morning I woke up covered in bruises and sore from running, falling, and Jill and I jumping on top of each other. That is an experience we will always share, and we still talk about it.

Today was a day that got me full of excitement!! My sweet husband and our friends had a viewing party last year for the film 'The Human Centipede' at our house. We made food, drank beer, and sat around laughing at this insane and twisted, dark film. It was so much fun! Well, today I found out that the 'Human Centipede 2' is showing at the Loft Cinema here in Tucson starting October 28th!! Not only will we get to watch the film with all of our friends on a huge screen, but they serve beer, wine, and pizza at the theater! Rick and I enjoy so much when everyone comes down, crams into our house, crash out on air mattresses, beds, and couches, and we drink, cook, and laugh and make great memories. It is always a great time with these people, and I know Halloween weekend will not disappoint! I love this time of year, and the people that share it with me make it all the more wonderful.

I love Paris in the spring time
I love Paris in the fall
I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles
I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles

I love Paris every moment
Every moment of the year
I love Paris, why oh why do I love Paris
Because my love is here
~Frank Sinatra

I found myself singing this song under my breath as we were walking the streets of Paris a few short weeks ago. Of all the places we visited, Paris was my favorite. It was just... magical. Whimsical. Beautiful. The buildings were perfection, the views breathtaking, the Eiffel Tower surreal. It is also the place where fashion week was held last, I just missed it.

I have been perusing the Internet watching the various collections that were presented during Paris fashion week, and one just took my breath away. Louis Vuitton, by designer Marc Jacobs.

Once the audience had been shown to their seats by assistants dressed in pristine white shirt dresses, aprons, lace gloves and ballet pumps, the show began with the unveiling of a traditional fairground carousel, with 48 horses rising and falling as it spun. This being Paris fashion week, the horses were liveried in chic white-on-white, the gaudy flashing lights replaced by creamy fairy ones.

One by one, the 48 models riding on the horses stepped off, and took a promenade around the set. The clothes came in the refined pastel shades of Ladurée macaroons: lemon and apricot, vanilla and pistachio. Girlishly full-skirts replaced last season's hotpants; long hair was secured with delicate tiaras rather than those dominatrix ponytails.

Kate Moss closed the show - demurely dressed, in a sequined and feathered broderie anglaise dress with sedate court shoes.

Inspiration, said the designer after the show, came to him as he walked through the Tuileries gardens in spring, admiring the famous carousel there. "It's just so beautiful, and so … Paris," he said.

I must agree... as photos taken from my own camera on my recent trip to Paris show, inspiration and beauty lie around every corner. Ahhh.... I love Paris. All the time.

a person's life purpose is nothing more than to rediscover, through the detours of art or love or passionate work, those one or two images in the presence of which his heart first opened.

Excitement.

As I was driving into work today, I began thinking about all the things in my life that I am excited for coming up ... and then I realized that as of late, this little blog has not been so full of excitement, rather, a little complaining, and some summing up of daily happenings. It's time to bring back some of the excitement back to this here little blog. So here, in no particular order, are things that make my heart skip a beat whenever they cross my mind:

1. Celebrating my sweet husband's 30th birthday in Las Vegas with some dear friends in two short weeks.
2. Waking up to my sweet husband every day, for that matter.
3. Perhaps becoming parents soon with said sweet husband.
4. Upcoming holidays, cool air, and the smells of Fall emanating through my home.
5. Running a full marathon in December, if my body will allow it.
6. A wonderful friend that I can share recipes, daily annoyances, and fashion discoveries with.
7. Framing some pictures from a trip of a lifetime with friends of a lifetime, and displaying them proudly in my home.
8. Having an intimate birthday party for two to celebrate my husband's big 3-0 this weekend, and giving him his surprise gift.
9. A visit from friends this upcoming weekend to celebrate Yom Kippur with her parents (some of my favorite people).
10. Both of my wonderful brothers owning their own homes, and being in loving relationships. I am so proud.
11. Being a bridesmaid this April in my baby brother's wedding. I couldn't be more honored.
12. Making Christmas ornaments with girlfriends while the boys are off to Nascar this November.
13. Visiting the local wineries when my husband's fabulous Aunt and Uncle are in Tucson in November.
14. Spending 5 days with one of my besties in San Diego in November (with some conference-attending involved).
15. Traveling to someplace tropical with my husband's family this February to celebrate his darling Mother's 50th birthday. She doesn't look a day over 40.
16. Building a stronger and closer relationship with Rick's baby sister.
17. Cheering on our husbands competing in the Tough Mudder this January with one of my closest and best girlfriends. Hopefully we will be wearing tutus.
18. Loving my jobs (both of them) and the people I work with, and having a full client list. I do realize this is a blessing and a rarity.
19. Watching my sweet neighbor's baby girl grow in her tummy, and being able to learn from her first hand experience (and go halfsies on a running stroller).
20. Planning and dreaming about trip of a lifetime #2.... Ireland? Poland? Argentina? French Riviera? It's only two summers away!

i, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.

October.

My favorite month is here!! I absolutely love October! Fall, Halloween, costume parties, eating soup for dinner, pumpkin spice lattes, and candy corn....Not to mention my sweet husband's 30th birthday! We are celebrating in Vegas this year with some of our closest friends, and partying it up big!

This weekend, to celebrate October and Fall, we started out our Friday night with a trip to the local Oktoberfest here in Tucson. It is held at Hi Corbett field, and seems to be a big event in Tucson.

This Oktoberfest did not compare to the real one we recently attended (posts on our trip soon, I promise), but it was nice to get out, enjoy the crisp, cool air, and watch the Coyote Country Cloggers perform. You heard that right!

The Coyote Country Cloggers

There was lots of food, German and otherwise, beer, and the 4th annual weiner dog races. We know how to do it in Tucson, baby.

After a fun evening out, the rest of the weekend was dedicated to getting our house decorated for Halloween!! I love decorating for any holiday, it just makes the house seem so much more warm and welcoming. I ate candy corn by the handful, lit a pumpkin pie scented candle, and let myself get excited to see the leaves change and riding my beach cruiser to the nearest bar and grill for dinner without sweating to death. Welcome, Fall! You have been missed, and your arrival much anticipated.

p.s. To those of you that are interested, I still have not run... still don't want to... still think it's stupid and the worst idea ever... still do not want to run the Ragnar in 2.5 weeks...but I did bring my running shoes to work to hit up the gym afterward... we shall see... If only eating candy corn by the pound made you fit and fabulous... *sigh*
